“Cinema does not love death”

Taking as his starting point “Tzeni Tzeni” (“Jenny Jenny”), the classic Finos Film comedy, Nikos Karathanos turns his gaze to the now mythical narrative of Greek cinema – the story of a Greece of light, summer, lightness and beauty that seems ever more distant in our own times. With nostalgia for the lost innocence of those summer nights, and with a company of “shadows”, ghosts of the classic film’s characters, he stages a summery, sunlit requiem: a lament for the end of that era and, at the same time, a celebration of the immortality the silver screen bestowed upon it. In this festive yet mournful atmosphere, the actors of the company search for those godlike figures who kept them company at the Sunday tables of their childhood, in a Greece that plunges daily into the sea of its memories, searching for itself again and again.
