Inspired by Vangelis Hatzigiannidis’s theatrical narrative “Metamfiesi” (“Disguise”), Haris Alexiou takes the stage of the Mikro Pallas Theatre from Friday 16 October.
The production is directed by Stavros Ragias, with sets and costumes by Andreas Georgiadis and music by Angelos Triantafyllou.
Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, for a limited number of performances, she will share with us the life of an unusual woman. Sometimes with humour and sometimes with utter seriousness, she will lay all her cards on the table, explaining how she learned to disguise her appearance and her soul alike. In a constant transformation. So that she could go on.
A woman without a name, in the quiet of her small world, speaks to herself. Today is no ordinary day. It marks a number of years since the death of a man who mattered greatly in her life. She was then working as his private night nurse. And he loved to talk to her for hours on end. The tales of her “Old Man”, together with an outrageous coincidence, will change everything in the space of a single day.
The heroine sees her reflection reversed in the mirror and does not recognise it. There is no greater lie than reality, she thinks. Nor can there be truth without the glitter of a deception. The heroine takes stock of her life, balancing deftly between fantasy and reality, sincerity and deceit, comedy and the most tragic loneliness. As she speaks and hears her own voice, she too becomes caught in the web of her spellbinding narrative. Everything is always otherwise, and she herself is always someone else.
